If you happen to tour around the Var, in the sauvebonne valley, near to Hyères, you will be surprised to find, there, one of the finest cane plantations (ARONDO DONAX) in the World.

The SILVACANE plantation was founded by making reeds for clarinets, saxophones, Oboe and bassoon.

As a matter of fact, the Var produces the best reeds in the world for those instruments, for the vibratory qualities of that cane, strengthened by the perpetual swaying of the stems in the Mistral wind and the sun of Provence, are exceptional.

The SILVACANE firm has grown and sold its products in every country since 1932, for the benefit of so many musicians: such as Charlie Parker, Jerry Mulligan, Benny Goodman, Sidney Bechet and so on.

The firm was founded by Honorat DONATI in 1932 and today the third generation is at work with Alexandre DONATI Senior (plantation manager), Lucien DONATI (business manager), Agnes DONATI (clarinet saxophone), Alexandre DONATI junior (Oboe, basoon).
